Film Shift

Wednesday, April 21st, 2010

The time-shift of film is much more real after you get used to the quick turnaround of digital. Here are a couple of pics from some film that I just got processed in the last few weeks. See what I mean? “Last few weeks”? In the digital age this should hit the press w/in 12 hours or so… Anyway, here is a pic from Lori’s ride down the coast. 350 or so miles in three days:

Mission Accomplished

And here is another from that ride. No happy faces though – they were just riding. This was about 50 miles from the end of that day in Morro Bay. Cookie and I were doing fine in the Mothership though.

On Big Sur

And one last photo from this past Saturday. Lori and I did our ride and then took Cookie for a walk. She wasn’t super happy about being left out of the bike ride, but we still haven’t figured out how to take here along…

Pics, Ironman, and Kit

My mom sent me some pics of her flowers in Oklahoma. Check these out!

Yes, it is even spring time in Oklahoma. Before you know it, it will be 99/90 — 99 degrees and 90% humidity. And then it will be time for OKFree!

Speaking of OKFree. We have kit! Lori and I wore ours for our 117 mile ride on Saturday. It was a cold, windy, sometimes rainy day. Lori never took her coats off, so she didn’t get to show her colors. We had to get the miles in though because it was the last big ride before Lori’s taper. Her race is May 1st, and now she gets to start resting and peaking. The hardest work is done. Here’s some pics of the kit:

Yeah, I should have straightened it out before the pic. Oh well.

That’s me pointing to the ship-to-shore radio towers on Pt. Reyes. And here is Lori finishing the last climb up Mt. Tam at mile 114. Still smiling!

Happy Easter!

OKFree update: W/ going to Oceanside last weekend for Lori’s race, rain, … and such, there hasn’t been much cycling. But Ironman training, and OKFree training, must go on. Yesterday Lori had 90 miles on her schedule. And I did too.

We rode up to Tomales w/ a few little side trips to make it the full 90. It was a tough day for Lori. Her stomach pretty much stopped processing sugar efficiently at around the half-way point. That’s rough. She did get some focaccia bread choked down in Tomales. It’s just the best you can get. Anywhere. So she was lucky there. And, fortunately we had a tailwind riding down the coast.

About two miles before we rode south into Stinson Beach we were passed like we were sitting still by some young buck. It’s always been my belief that if you are going to pass someone, you should do it in a decisive way. And not slow down… Unfortunately for Young Buck, he slowed down. We rolled along about a third of a mile back, even taking some time back on him. And we weren’t trying. Well, since Lori wasn’t feeling that great, I figured I would have to go catch ol’ YB on our way up Mt. Tam. It’s about a 30-minute climb, so there was plenty of time.

I passed YB at about the half-way point. Just before I caught up he looked back and saw me. I thought, “Oh well, I tried.” thinking that he would take off. Nope. He imploded. So disappointing! What’s happening to the metal of the young men these days? Anyway, I dusted him and rode the rest of the way to the top. He finished 1:40 behind me. Not bad for an old dude after riding 87 miles I guess.

Muir Woods 3

Today the Ironman schedule said 22 miles of running up and down Mt. Tam. I signed on for a run up and down and home via my own route. I ran 10 and Lori did her 22, just finishing a little while ago. Since I ran through Muir Woods I snapped a few pics. I had run down there in a big storm on Friday and the moss was electric. It was awesome. I wanted to photograph it so I carried a camera this time. I’m not sure these pics do it justice, but just imagine it is about twice as vibrant as what you see here. Truly phenomenal.
