Work Can be Work

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

Well, my client didn’t get the memo that I was supposed to be riding the California Coast in glorious weather this week. Lori and I rode 80 miles on Monday, but Tuesday all I could muster was 28 miles around San Simeon with Lori. She rode 120. I had client handholding to do. Then on Wednesday I knew it would be more of the same, so Cookie and I went for a run around Morro Bay. It was a wonderful 6.3 miles that left me time to keep my client happy and still make it down to Santa Barbara to meet Lori. She did another 120. I did manage to squeeze some photography into all of this.

Here is one photo from Cookie’s and my run yesterday. More to come…

Lori

We rode through Muir Beach and then North to Fairfax-Bolinas Road today. Then back up over the mountain to home. It was reasonable warm, mostly sunny, and overall pretty nice. The ocean though, was very rough. Four-fathom bank was line after line of breaking waves. The shipping traffic was threading the needle to get in to SF Bay, but they must have been rocking pretty hard too.

After our ride I loaded the camper, Lori did laundry and other chores, and then we took Cookie for a walk. This pic is from that walk. It was pretty dark, so this was shot at a slow shutter speed and wide-open aperture. It’s not as sharp as I would like, but it’s okay. Lori sure is cute, which makes all the difference!

More Running in the Rain

Friday, February 12th, 2010

I have run for the last four days. It’s been fantastic — even when it has been raining. From my run:

Little Fern Creek

Tomorrow, and for the next five days, though it’s all about the bike. We are riding down the coast to Santa Barbara, with some friends, starting on Monday. Finishing on Wednesday.

Well actually, Lori, Cookie and I are going to drive the Mothership to Monterey and then ride north to meet the group coming down from Marin. Well, Cookie will stay w/ the camper and keep it warm for us. Anyway, that way Cookie and I can sag for the ride and we won’t have to fight the Monday traffic. My plan is to drive to the destination each morning and then ride north to meet the group. That way I don’t have to do crazy Ironman-class rides and Cookie gets to go along too. Plus, the other riders can get their gear sagged for them.

So, no more fun runs for a little while. Just being OKFree trained. But that’s not bad either.

Trail Running

This evening on my run I met Mark Richards. He is a local pro photographer/author. We chatted for a bit as we ran/hiked up Mt. Tam. As a 365er that can’t seem to go anywhere I asked him if he was running w/ his camera. Yes. An iphone. He offered to take my picture with my Lumix/Leica rig, and I wasn’t about to say no to that. So here’s one of them…

Trail Running 2

Of course, photographers never get their picture taken, so I knew I wanted to take a pic of him too. With a (very) little bit of encouragement he agreed.

We had a great, fun conversation that really made my run and evening. Ah, just another benefit of living and running on Mt. Tamalpais.
