Ironman I am Not

Spring Storms

Whew! I survived the day. The planned route (with Lori’s Ironman training group) was to ride from Terra Linda out to Chilano Valley, then do a little extra loop out there and ride back. Well, I ain’t no Ironman, so I changed the route for me. Instead of doing the double loop thingy, I turned left (when they turned right) and went to Tomales for focaccia bread.

The Tomales Bakery makes the best focaccia bread you can get. If I’m going to be w/in five miles of Tomales, I’m certainly not going to miss it. Lori and I worked out a plan where I could go to Tomales and then rejoin the group. And, if we somehow didn’t re-meet-up, we would at least now what happened. The plan worked fine and I was able to rejoin. And, I got my foccacia bread, some warm apple cider, and a chunk of bread to go for Lori — which we ended up eating as a group before climbing the very challenging Wilson Hill. The thing about this bread is that it is salty, sweet, oily (olive oil), and well just generally yummy. Just what you need when you are riding your bike really hard. Yeah, it’s amazing.

Here is the map of my ride. Turned out to be about 91 miles vs. Lori’s 95. She is oh-so-very-strong right now. There were times that I had to really focus and push to stay with her. I knew if I let her drop me I might never catch up. I’ve always got a chance to regain lost ground on the big hills, but much of the ride was just rolling hills. With her current fitness level, that is a recipe for a long day riding by yourself if you lose her wheel. So I didn’t. :-)

The Ironman triathletes went for a 45 minute run after their 95 miles. I hung out w/ Coach D because I was plenty tired. Enough it enough, I say!

It’s Official

I sent in my OKFree paperwork today. No backing out now! Yesterday we rode 53 miles. Headwind on the way out, and a wonderful tailwind on the way home. Today I ran, but OKFree was on my mind. Running is a must though if I am to survive the Dipsea.

Here are some pictures of Lori and Cookie from this afternoon.
