Oklahoma Freewheelin’ – The Mt. Tamalpais Route
Thursday, January 21st, 2010
A quick note before I get into the OKFree. It is snowing on Mt. Tamalpais right now! On my run this afternoon I trudged up through the cold rain, wind and fog until it started to spit snow! By the time I got to the West Point Inn there was even a bit of accumulation. Cool!
My dad sent me a note today that the OKFree route has been announced. So, I sat down and plotted it out here:
My problem here is that I have to run the Dipsea on June 13th, so I won’t be able to start the OKFree on time. So what I’m thinking is that I will run the Dipsea, then fly to Dallas later on the 13th. Rent a car and drive it one-way to Paris, TX and spend the night. Get up bright and early on Monday morning and ride to Heavener, OK. It’s a 145 or so mile ride, which is doable. From there I join up with the rest of the Okies and live the OKFree-life of barbecue, cowboy hash, and biscuits and gravy for the rest of the ride.
The question is, what about my stuff? My preliminary plan is to ship my stuff (in my bike box)in advance to my dad and they can throw it on the truck Monday morning. I can pick it up when I get there… The bike, I can bring with me. I’m thinking cardboard box right now for Eddy. He’s not going to be too happy, but hey, he’s a bike and he will deal w/ it.
Okay, that’s the preliminary plan. I think I need to train harder…
