It has not felt much like summer this year, however there is 3 months left of fire season for things to change. Marin County has not sent a strike team to a fire so far this year. Well technically they have, but it was to the East bay for 6 hours so I am not counting that one.
There are still lookouts that are completing their task books, and again there is plenty of time left to work some shifts before fire season is over. Much thanks to everyone that has helped the new folks with their training.
Coverage at the lookouts continues to get better. If you read the monthly hours spreadsheet you probably noticed that each month since May has improved in the number of hours volunteered. This is great, and I hope that trend continues throughout the summer as more people get qualified and take shifts.
The pictorial roster for the 2010 Lookout Volunteers has been sent to our stations. Look around for one and check it out. There was one mistake in the pictorial, and once a corrected copy is received I will get one to each of the lookout towers.
I believe next month is when one of our very own (I’ll keep you guessing) will be featured in the County’s Volunteer View publication. I will be sure to get you a copy of this so you can read all about it.
Take care,
Don Keylon
